The fathomless, inky black sky,
Gave forth pinpricks of light,
In myriad, splendid forms they lie,
Twinkling in and out of sight.
Into the vast realm of stars,
Rose the silver sickle bright,
His smooth surface marred,
And spilling his cool moonlight.
Some trees loom tall and dark,
Leaves rustling in the chilly wind,
While others stood gaunt and stark,
Branches in eerie shapes grinned.
A murmuring stream wandered by,
With waters mysterious and deep,
Meandering under the midnight sky,
When the entire world did sleep.
As I did this sight behold,
As Nature's beauty did unfold,
This mystic vision did I forsake,
Leaving an empty silence in my wake...
